Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem whose prevalence continues to increase every year. Factors such as age, unhealthy lifestyle, and stress are the main causes of hypertension. One of the effective and easy-to-implement non-pharmacological interventions is Slow Deep Breathing (SDB). SDB can help lower blood pressure by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, increasing vasodilation, and reducing peripheral vascular resistance. This study aims to determine the effect of Slow Deep Breathing in lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension. The study design used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design with 20 respondents selected by purposive sampling. The intervention was carried out for 7 days with a duration of 20 minutes each session. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure with a p value = 0.000. Conclusion, Slow Deep Breathing is effective in lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension
